If you’ve finally written “The End” and your 2015 resolution reads, “GET BOOK PUBLISHED,” you need to do one crucial thing before you send it off to an agent, publisher, or self-publish it:
Get a professional edit.
Aside from the quality of your own brilliant writing, I can’t think of a single more important factor in getting your book read and published. Unless you’ve seen the difference a professional edit makes, you may not be able to appreciate that the lack of it could be the one thing keeping your book from making the leap from wannabe to win. You need an unbiased, experienced, professional eye to see the things you cannot.
Let’s face it: Few of us can see our childen objectively; we’re too close to them, and we love them too much. Your book is your baby, and it takes a pro to see the things you can no longer see.
I can offer you anything from an introductory line edit to a full one. In the process, I will check, correct, and advise you on:
- whether it has a good beat and you can dance to it
- —in short, everything.
In addition to the line edit, I will provide you with written feedback about your style and your story. I’ll ask you a lot of questions, make a lot of comments, and suggest useful changes.
Make this resolution the first one you accomplish in 2015. Give it every advantage–your book deserves it, and so do you.
